Abstract

Since the police raid in Stonewall Inn in June 1969 there have been a lot of changes in the way society regarded the LGBT community, acquiring more rights as time has passed. Despite all the advances in this area, the issue of representation in cinema, television and literature is still one of the main focus of LGBT associations, and of people who think that society has not advanced as much as it should have. This paper seeks to explore the representation of male homosexual and bisexual characters in Young Adult (YA) Fantasy novels; specially in relation to the fictional society in which they develop and how it affects their formation as subjects. This will be made taking queer theory as a base and always bearing in mind that YA literature is written mainly for a teenage readership, still in development of their own sexuality.
