Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement requirements
According to the Journal’s policies and following its requirements, a selection of key items is included below.
1. Journal’s Ownership and management
Ascribed to the Faculty of Education, it is sponsored by the Universidad Camilo José Cela
www.ucjc.edu.
2. Publishing schedule
Verbeia is an annual publication of book reviews, articles and unpublished papers on related issues on Spanish and English studies. Both English and Spanish can be used. Due date for publication is April.
3. Editorial board
Verbeia, Journal of English and Spanish Studies and its Editorial Board is formed by recognized expert members in the field, whose full names, affiliations and contact
information for the editorial office are provided on the journal’s Web site.
Duties of Editors
Editors evaluate submitted manuscripts based on the academic merit such as clarity,
originality and research’s validity, and also in accordance with the journal’s scope.
The Editor-in-Chief and co-editors s have full authority over the editorial content of
the journal and the timing of the content.
Publication decisions
As further explained in Section 3 below, editors ensure that all submitted manuscripts considered for publication undergo peer-review by at least two expert reviewers in the field. And the Editor-in-Chief is responsible for deciding which manuscript will be published based on the validation of the work, the reviewers’ comments, and legal requirements concerning plagiarism.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest
Neither editors nor the editorial board will use unpublished information disclosed without explicit written consent from the authors.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial board members will not disclose any information of a submitted manuscript to anyone different from reviewers, other editorial advisers and the publisher.
4. Authors’ duties and responsibilities
Authors are obliged to participate in peer review process, ensure that they have significantly contributed to the research, submitted entirely original works and that if they have used the work and/or works of others, that this had been appropriately cited. They should ensure that they have properly acknowledged the work of others, citing the influential publications for their work.
Authors are obliged to participate in the peer review process, cooperate with the editors
and provide retractions or corrections of mistakes and respond promptly to the editor’s
requests for patient consents and copyright permissions.
Articles or manuscripts describing basically the same research should not be published in
more than one journal or primary publication. Hence, authors should not submit for consideration a manuscript that has already been published in another journal.
Submission of a manuscript concurrently to more than one journal is unethical publishing
behaviour and unacceptable.
5. Peer-review process
Reviewers’ role and duties
Peer-review process is an essential component of formal scholarly communication.
It assists editors in making editorial decisions. Accordingly, all manuscripts submitted to the Journal is subjected to peer-review.
Peer-review is defined as obtaining advice on individual manuscripts from reviewers’ expert in the field.
Standards of objectivity
Judgments should be done objectively and remarks supplied clearly with clear justifications and arguments that the author can use to improve the manuscript.
Hence, reviewers should have no conflict of interest.
Acknowledgement of sources
Reviewers should point out relevant published work which is not yet cited by the authors, and accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also inform the editors of any similarity or overlap found between the manuscript under review and any other published manuscript. Reviewed articles should be treated confidentially.
Publication ethics
Publishers and editors should take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred. In no case should the editors encourage such misconduct, or knowingly allow such misconduct to take place.
In the event that the journal’s publisher or editors are made aware of any allegation
of research misconduct, the publisher together with the editor shall take reasonable
steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct
has occurred and should deal with allegations appropriately.
The journal provides all guidelines for retracting or correcting articles when needed.
Besides, publishers and editors should always be willing to publish corrections,
clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed.
Copyright protection and Access
Copyright and licensing information will appear on the first page of the Work when
published by Verbeia. The author should agree to hold Verbeia harmless for any
unauthorized use of the Work by any third party subsequent to its publication by
Verbeia, including any distribution or publication of the Word by those who obtain
permanent copies of it from the Internet or other network.
