Abstract

Technology is increasingly present in ever more areas of our lives. Technological advances
allow us to immediately access resources that are appropriate for communicative input
due to their authenticity as they are taken from real sources. The aim of this article is to
demonstrate the importance of the use of ICTs (Information and communications
technology) in teaching and, in particular, in teaching foreign languages. With this idea in
mind, a synopsis of the long evolution of the role of new technologies in education is
presented herein. Particular attention will be paid to the relationship between ICTs and
communicative approaches as well as the technological resources that can reinforce
improvements in education. Lastly, this article includes a proposal of a task for teaching
foreign languages, within which different technological resources are intrinsically
integrated from a communicative approach where the students’ and teacher’s
collaboration is crucial.
