Abstract

The current article brings about a revision of the various studies whose aim is to generate intervention models that diminish psychopathic characteristics in criminals: however, there are few studies that meet the criteria of a proper design study, which negatively affects the validity of the result. The most often used treatment models are the risk-need responsivity model whose objective is to lower the risk factors related to recidivism with the purpose of helping the subject develop better socially; the two-component model which is used to try to reduce violence in psychopathic individuals by manipulating their personality characteristics (interpersonal component and criminogenic component while they change their antisocial behavior; and scheme therapy which aims to break the patient's emotional detachment in order to accede and heal their vulnerable side,  including the hurts caused by traumatic experiences (early maladaptive schemas). With regard to prevention, diverse treatments to help children victims of abuse have been developed: among them are psychotherapy; psychoeducation; trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy; family therapy; psychodynamic; and eclectic therapy and some therapeutic pharmaceuticals such as antidepressants and mood stabilizers.
