Abstract

Domestic violence is a social problem whose solution should be sought not only in the judicial system but also in education. The Spanish class is a space that today allows the discussion of issues related to social justice through literature and art. The purpose of this essay is to share some ideas for using Icíar Bollaín’s film Te doy mis ojos (2003) to reflect with students on the issue of family violence. To this end, it proposes considering the experiences that help the protagonist, Pilar, escape the cycle of violence as a journey. It also explains how clothing can be interpreted as both a symbol of repression and freedom. Finally, it describes the role that fear plays in the lives of the film’s main characters.
