Abstract

We analise the enculturating features of youth theatre and theatre performed with adolescents in Spain. By viewing the plays, an exhaustive questionnaire and an open meeting with some of the main creators of youth theatre, we study several dimensions: the vision of adolescence and its relationship with adults; the normalities, stereotypes and cultural transmission in the theatre they produce; and the perceptions about school theatre. Part of the analysis deals with the vision transmitted by the theatre about politics, sex and the conflicts of adolescence. In conclusion, the main features that characterize the enculturating agency of youth theatre ages are messages of tolerance, diversity, criticism towards power and established normalities, and the active role in political participation.
