Abstract

This work aims to examine dolls as semantic and artisanal artifices in Mexican contemporary author and artist Ana Clavel’s work and in Hans Bellmer’s surrealist art. The dolls of the German artist are textual images in the Mexican author Ana Clavel’s novel Las Violetas son las flores del deseo (2007) and they show aesthetic affinities with the plastic work of Ana Clavel and with dolls as semantic artifices in her fiction (Las Violetas). These synthetic objects are conceived as a way to invite us to think of the sexual and strange bodies of dolls as erotic and denaturalized.
