Abstract

In the past decade there has been an increase in the application of programs to reduce school violence. The present study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of school violence prevention programs through a systematic review and a meta-analysis. Following the steps suggested by the Prisma protocol and based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 14 studies were selected from the Web of Science, PsycINET, Scopus, Ebsco, Scielo and PubMed databases. Most of the analyzed interventions proved to be effective for the reduction of attitudes associated with school violence (87.72%). In addition, some other characteristics of the studies have been revised as the variables included in the studies, nationality and type of intervention. Finally, the importance of counting on standardized measures and programs is emphasized to give an answer to the complex phenomenon of school violence.
