Abstract

In this article we provide information focused in the psychological impact of infertility and the treatments associated with this condition. After introducing a brief conceptualization of infertility and its psychosocial aspects, we present a review of the literature on the effect of assisted reproduction treatments over the quality of life. From the elaboration of the concept “Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL)”, we proceed to describe the vital areas of life that could be affected during the processes of assisted reproduction. The article concludes with the need to develop and to implement programs aimed to promote the quality of life of those couples subject to this type of treatments, not only to reduce its psychosocial impact, but also to improve the achievement of and adherence to these medical treatments.
