Abstract

The medial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) has a principal role in the study of the aspects related to memory processes. The integrity of the medial temporal lobe is determinant for the creation of new learning. For this reason, the MTLE offers an opportunity for the study of these processes. In this study, it is hypothesized that the damage to this structures compromise the processes of encoding, storage and retrieval in the episodic memory. During this paper, each process and its relation with other cognitive functions –speed of processing, attention and working memory- is analyzed. For the memory phase evaluation a set of TAVEC indices were used. The sample was composed by 14 subjects with MTLE diagnosis and 14 healthy subjects coupled by age and educational level. The results show a deficit for encoding and retrieval processes.
