Abstract

Sensorial integration is crucial for efficiently processing sensory stimuli from different sources. It has been suggested that sensorial integration can significantly improve through various activities carried out over time, such as musical training. In this study, a meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the impact of musical training on sensorial integration, specifically on response speed to visual, auditory, and tactile stimuli, by comparing musicians to non-musicians. Applying rigorous inclusion criteria, 5 studies were selected, and standardized mean difference (SMD) was used as the effect size measure within a random-effects model. The results showed a moderate effect size in favor of musicians. Although moderate heterogeneity was observed, these findings support the potential inclusion of musical training in educational and therapeutic programs to enhance sensorimotor coordination.
