Validation of the Supervisory Practices Scale (EPS) in a postgraduate program in psychology
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this study was to construct and validate the Supervision Practices Scale in its version for graduates, in a sample of 160 students from 8 postgraduate residency programs of the Master's degree in psychology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). The results obtained in each of the stages of the construction and validation of the scale are presented. The 38 items that emerged from the design of the initial version were submitted to content validation with 17 expert judges, using Lawshe's RVC coefficient (1975), and as a result, 2 items were eliminated and the wording of 3 of them was revised, obtaining a CVI=0.80. Based on the AFE and AFC, the reliability from the TCT and the discrimination index from TRI, the scale was conformed based on the AFE by 36 items distributed in 5 dimensions: resources and experiences, student follow-up, organization of activities, interpersonal relationship and ethical principles. The scale explains 69.41% of the variance, with an acceptable goodness of fit (χ2(460) =895.245, p<0.001). This structure was corroborated with the CFA, where the fit to the theoretical model with 5 dimensions was confirmed (χ2(9) = 17.816 CMIN/DF= 1.986; NFI = 0.969, CFI = 0.984, RMSEA = 0.079, PCLOSE = 0.166). Reliability was obtained in each of the dimensions with a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient ranging from 0.899 to 0.926, and a McDonald's Omega coefficient from 0.910 to 0.930. All the items had a discrimination index greater than one when the IRT analysis was performed. Thus, the items included in the scale adequately measure supervisory practices. The use of a valid and reliable instrument could facilitate the evaluation, training and updating of supervisors to improve their practice.
