Abstract

Episodic memory is a mnesic system responsible for encoding, storing, and retrieving information associated with a specific spatio-temporal context. Its alterations are related to neuronal damage of different etiology, which significantly compromises the functionality of the individual. Since there is no biomarker to account for these alterations, it is necessary to perform a neuropsychological evaluation that provides detailed information on the strengths and weaknesses of episodic memory performance, to clarify diagnoses, define therapeutic plans, establish a prognosis, assess the effectiveness of interventions and provide recommendations for care in the school environment. Therefore, this paper compiles some tests that evaluate episodic memory in Spanish-speaking population and shows the main guidelines to carry out an effective neuropsychological evaluation of this memory.
