The mediating role of moral disengagements mechanisms control on sexism and violent attitudes towards intimate partner

Abstract

Intimate partner violence has been one of the longest issues of our society. The acceptance of violence and sexism is presented as an influential variable of such issue, which are identified as risk factors so as to exercise and suffer violence, notwithstanding, this is a complex phenomenon and in its construction multiple mechanisms interact, which are scarcely studied. This is the case of the Moral Disengagement Mechanisms (moral justification, advantageous comparison, deshumanization, attribution of blame) a cognitive strategies that eases violent acts performances. This paper is intended to study the mediator role of the moral disengagement mechanisms on the gender cognitive distortions and attitudes favourable to violence amongst the university youth. The results show a statistically significant positive correlation amongst variables that assert the mediator role of the moral disengagement mechanisms.
