Abstract

From the behavioural sciences, Antisocial Personality Disorder is constantly linked to abnormal social behaviour, which can sometimes exceed the limits legally accepted; therefore, the propensity to commit crimes by people with this disorder deserves significant attention from the academic world. This exploratory study analyses how the Spanish Supreme Court currently responds to cases where a crime is committed by a person with PAD: to know the characteristics of these criminal behaviours, to identify the legal response applied by the Court and to discover psychological variables that characterise the affected persons. With the results of the sentences (n=31) and the defendants (n=34), the aim is to shed light on the importance of studying the phenomenon and to initiate a journey of psycho-legal research into PAD in Spain.
