Abstract

The intervention is presented in a clinical case (female, 52 years old) diagnosed with an adaptive disorder, with depressive symptoms. The evaluation process, the explanatory model and the cognitive-behavioral treatment followed are presented, adapting different techniques to the characteristics of the patient (different types of restructuring, training in social skills and stress inoculation techniques). The physiological, motor and cognitive symptoms and their functional relationship with the manifestation of the disorder are analyzed. The determinants, antecedents and consequences of the problem behavior are also presented. The treatment is presented as effective, since the pre and post-treatment evaluation, allowed a total remission of the depressive symptoms that at the initial moment of the consultation were severe, according to the scores obtained in the BDI-II (Beck Depression Inventory) and the BHS (Beck Hopelessness Inventory). The results show the effectiveness of the techniques implemented and imply a reference point for adapting treatment plans in this type of case, since there is no evidence-based treatment of choice for these disorders, but rather general recommendations resulting from isolated research studies.
